Best Galaxy A71 Refurbished Deals – How To Buy

The Samsung Galaxy A71 launches itself proudly, right into pole position: it's not quite all-new, but will surely be the star of the Galaxy A series, even offering a slightly modified design. The mid-range smartphone remains in the same sizing as before, i.e. 6.7-inch format, but comes with a new quad camera.

So is it worth opting for this when its predecessor the Galaxy A70 was such a great phone (and still is?) - let's find out.

Summary of contents

  1. At a glance:
  2. New camera, 64 megapixels
  3. Solid mid-range performance
  4. Other phones to also consider:
  5. Price of Galaxy A71 in UK
  6. Our Verdict

At a glance:

The most notable features of the Samsung Galaxy A71 are the full HD+ display, the 64-megapixel main camera and the long-lasting 4500mAh battery.

The launch to the new 2020 Galaxy A models  is here and this starts with the big Samsung Galaxy A71. Its large 6.7-inch display remains with the full HD+ resolution of the previous Galaxy A70.

ANd although the resolution of 2400 × 1080 pixels is not too high for a middle range phone, the display can fully convince in terms of colour and contrast range. Samsung have also given the Super AMOLED display a more modern design.

On the one hand, the refreshed and almost borderless design reduces the housing dimensions by a few millimetres compared to the predecessor but on the other hand, the somewhat old-fashioned notch has gone. As a result, the 32 megapixel selfie camera is only visible through a discreet hole in the display.

As with the predecessor, the front is protected by a robust Gorilla 3 glass - this isn't quite as strong as we'd have liked, nor as new, but presumably Samsung is saving the higher-end Gorilla Glass for the "S" range, such as the new Galaxy S20, and the last thing they want is to eat into their prized flagship's sales.

New camera, 64 megapixels

The plastic back is still present sadly, but for most people this won't matter. In the UK there are three launch colours: Pink, Silver, Blue and Black. These are sometimes called Crush or Prism colours. Anyway, onto that camera setup...

At the top left, the new quad camera should catch your eye. While the main camera of the predecessor still worked with 32 megapixels, the new model uses double the resolution. The 64-megapixel wide angle has a focal length of 24 mm and should be very well suited for low-light subjects with an aperture of f/1.8.

According to experts, the image quality of the camera makes a good impression but it's not something we've managed to be able to test yet.

Once the A71 is fully launched in the UK we hope to bring you an updated review here. One thing is clear though, even in low light, the sensor should provide more image information than that of the previous Samsung Galaxy A70 model.

Talking about the main camera, an ultra-wide-angle lens with 12 megapixels is housed in the striking lens field similar to the flagship model of Saumsung’s main competition – the iPhone 11. The 13 mm focal length is also very bright at f / 2.2. There is also a new 5-megapixel macro lens, the image quality of which, is very good, but not particularly outstanding.

With the 5-megapixel depth sensor, you can adjust the depth of field before and after the shot to give the images an aesthetic professional affect. You'll find this feature only on higher-end smartphones up to now.

Solid mid-range performance

The rest of the performance remains at a similar level to that of the previous Galaxy A70 model. The new mid-range Snapdragon 730 processor is now used, which promises smooth operation with Android 10.

Apart from the slightly higher processor clock speed, the memory values do not differ from the previous A70 model. The main memory card is 6GB and provides sufficient capacity, while the internal memory is still 128GB. In addition to the two SIM card slots, the memory can be expanded with a micro SD card.

And as for the battery? With a 4500 mAh battery, the battery capacity of the Galaxy A71 remains the same as that of the Galaxy A70 - no surprise here. Samsung has obviously decided on the "if it aint broke" mantra.

And just as with the Galaxy A70, quick charging with 25 W is possible.

If you’re looking for a mid-range smartphone from one of the best manufacturers in the world, then you can’t go far wrong with the Samsung Galaxy A71. For the money you pay you won’t get much groundbreaking technology, but if it’s speed and reliability that you’re after, then the Galaxy A71 is a no-brainer.

  1. Galaxy A50
  2. Galaxy A51 (new)
  3. Huawei P30

Price of Galaxy A71 in UK

At launch, the UK price for the Galaxy A71 is £399.

Considering the "S" range of phones is about twice the price, the A series just make so much sense. It's quite surprising really that people are still even considering buying an S20 when this is almost as good - for literally 1/2 the price.

if you prefer to purchase your Galaxy A71 via pay monthly, then we are already comparing contract prices here at Foned - before the A71 has even fully launched. Use the table above to compare monthly prices and find your perfect deal - whether you want loads of data, unlimited minutes, or anything else.

The current cheap monthly contract price is £22 a month through BT but we compare 1000s of deals on this model, so be sure to adjust the sliders above to find your perfect match!

Our Verdict

The Galaxy A71 is a thoughtful refresh over the Galaxy A70 even though it won't exactly make too many A70 owners jump ship. But it does pack more gaming punch and more camera pixels, so it does pass as a welcome update to an already brilliant phone.

The Galaxy A71 adopts the punch-hole notch design, but the actual hole is not as discrete as on the more expensive S and Note models. Still, it's a statement for the premium status of the A-series as is the massive multi-camera setup on the back.
